Saint Stephen’s & Saint Agnes School held their 50th Sleepy Thompson basketball tournament last weekend at the upper school on St. Stephens Road. The week got underway with a SSSAS alumni game. The alumni played against Washington Redskins and faculty members.
The Redskins line-up included Troy Drake, Ricki Ervins, Mark Moseley and Dan Ryczek. In the stands cheering on the teammates was: Mike Bragg, Brig Owens, Roy Jefferson, Doc Walker, Darryl Pounds and Carl Krammerer. Faculty members who played with the Redskins were: Kevin McClinton (his father played for the Redskins), Jon Kunz and Andy Kay. The Saints roster included: Dale White, Harrison Keith, Rey Decerega, Don Kent, Matt Newton, Chris Simpson, Troudy Vaughan, Geoff Johnson, Len Armstrong, Chris Owen, Erik Jurgensen, Mac Miller, Steven Peterson, Bob Dail, Phillip Wellde, Josh Cooper, Herb Hughes and David “Jake” Jacobson.
The St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School’s Goodwin Gymnasium was packed with enthusiastic Saints fans during the game against local rival Episcopal in Saturday’s championship game. The Saints won, 53-38, to cap off the 50th annual showcase tournament.
