Gallows Road Bridge Renewal Complete

Gallows Road drivers now have a much improved ride over Route 50, as the Virginia Department of Transportation has finished more than $4 million worth of bridge and other work in the area.

The project, completed ahead of schedule and under budget, included:

  • Resurfacing the bridge deck and paving Gallows Road approaching the bridge for a smooth transition

  • Repairs to concrete and steel beams to maintain safety and extend the overall life of the bridge

  • Reconstructing the bridge’s sidewalks to improve pedestrian safety

  • Upgrading interchange traffic signals to mast arm poles for improved visibility

The bridge was originally built in 1985, with extensive pier repairs made in 2016.

Gallows Road averages between 35,000 and 38,000 vehicles a day through this area, while Route 50 averages 42,000 vehicles a day at the interchange.
