Herndon Heritage Preservation Revisited

New district guidelines are long-awaited and much in need.

With the recent Herndon Town Council approval to award a contract to Work Program Architects/Commonwealth Preservation Group of $146,419 to pursue an update to the town's Historic Preservation Guidelines, Sign Standards & Program Update, the town hosted its kick-off meetings Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018.

A handful of business owners attended the noon Friday meeting while a reported 40 residents attended the Saturday morning session.

Business owners in the Herndon Heritage Preservation District met Friday for one hour however consultant open hours continued until 5 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 20, residents attended the Public Outreach Meeting.

Each group learned about the project and became active participants in helping to shape the new nandbook. The consultants listened and listed attendee comments on large flip charts.

Consultants from Work Program Architects are Mel Price, AIA, LEED AP, Principal, and Peter Johnston, Associate. Consultants from Commonwealth Preservation Group are Paige Weiss Pollard, Principal, and Katie Paulson, Architectural Historian.
