The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a plan to reconfigure the Potomac School on Aug. 6.

The 89.9-acre school property will remove from the plans previously approved but unbuilt additions to the performing arts center, upper school and gymnasium.

Instead it plans to enlarge the lower school by about 46,000 square feet. The approved size of the school overall will remain unchanged at 520,315 square feet.

The school does not wish to expand its enrollment from its currently approved 1.075 students or its staff from 230 members.

Part of the school’s initial proposal for its reconfiguration had included a proposal to add 25 townhouses to the school site. This portion was dropped for the present due to neighborhood opposition. The school does plan to bring back the idea, said Greg Riegle, attorney for the Potomac School.
