Fall Choral Concert a Chantilly High

Featuring seven choirs in a soaring musical performance, Chantilly High will present its Fall Choral Concert next Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m., in the school auditorium.

Tickets are $3 at the door, or in advance by contacting Donna McBride at 703-309-4843 or at mcb88@cox.net. It’s also the Choral Department’s Tag Day concert, so those who donated to the school’s Tag Day in September may exchange their donation tags for concert tickets.

ALL OF CHANTILLY’S choirs will be performing, including the Concert Choir, Symphonic Chorale and Women’s Select Choir concert ensembles, under Director Mike Fuchs, plus the Light Touch, Magic Touch and Touch of Class show choirs, under Director Glenn Cockrell. Also singing will be the Advanced Mass Choir.

The show features the musical repertoire the students have been working on during their first, nine weeks of school. Selections from the show choirs will include: "R-O-C-K in the USA," by John Cougar Mellencamp; "Anything Goes," from the Broadway musical of the same name; "Up Tight," by Stevie Wonder; and "Love Shack" by the B-52s.

The Advanced Mass Choir will sing "And the Glory of the Lord," from Handel’s "Messiah." And the concert ensembles — whose members have been studying music that grew out of the Holocaust — will perform, "Give Us Hope" and "Even When God is Silent."

THE CHORAL STUDENTS have all been rehearsing since the beginning of the school year. Altogether, the audience will be treated to about 25 musical numbers in an approximately two-hour show with a brief intermission. And Cockrell says it’ll be really special.

"It’s another opportunity for the community to come and enjoy some family entertainment," he said. "There’ll be something for everyone to like because we hit a broad spectrum of music."
