Potomac ArtSpeak — a program to bring professional actors and actresses to high schools — is featuring two Broadway stars in a free event at Wootton High School. The program will highlight the talents of actress Christiane Noll and actor Brad Oscar. The performance will take place at 7 p.m. on May 3, in the Thomas S. Wootton High School auditorium.
ArtSpeak is hosting its Broadway Stars Series to promote theatre arts throughout the community. This experience will give students the opportunity to meet Broadway stars and watch them perform. They will also have time for a question and answer discussion session. In addition, raffle prizes will be given.
ArtSpeak is introducing a “Bring a Friend” campaign. Students who bring a friend who has not previously experienced the world of the theatre arts, will receive an extra raffle ticket to win prizes. This new campaign will provide an introduction to theatre for those who normally do not have an opportunity to experience it.
“We are thrilled to host these seasoned professionals to entertain and educate the entire Wootton community about a life in the arts,” said Wootton Drama Director and teacher Jessica Speck. “We hope the ‘bring a friend’ campaign will encourage a number of non-theatre students to engage in the magic of theatre for one exciting evening.”
Noll performed in “Ragtime” and “Jekyll and Hyde” on Broadway. She received a Tony Nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical for her role in “Ragtime.” She has starred in national Tours of “Grease,” “Miss Saigon,” and “City of Angels” and in many international productions. In 2012, she received the Helen Hayes Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance at the Kennedy Center in “Ragtime.”
Oscar performed in the original cast of “The Producers” for which he received a Tony Nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. He has appeared in Arena Stage productions and, most recently is Uncle Fester in “The Addams Family” on Broadway.
Senior Mitchell Myers, who has appeared in Wootton drama productions and Chamber Singers for four years is thrilled that students will have the opportunity to interact with artists: “ArtSpeak is an amazing opportunity to meet these Broadway stars which people do not normally get to meet."
All are welcome to attend this free event.
