At a March 4 hearing in Albemarle County Circuit Court, Judge Cheryl Higgins granted the man charged with abducting and murdering Hannah Graham a continuance. Higgins decided to give extra time for Matthew’s defense to produce expert DNA testimony in the killing of the West Potomac alumna.
Matthew’s trial was previously scheduled for June 29, 2015. A new date will be decided at a May 5 hearing.
On Sept. 13, 2014, Graham disappeared from the University of Virginia campus where she was a sophomore. After several weeks of searching, the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Department discovered human remains on Oct. 18 that were later confirmed as Graham’s.
In this trial Matthew will face first degree murder, abduction and reckless driving charges.
