Three JROTC cadets were honored by the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution during a ceremony held April 30 at Mount Vernon High School.
Cadet June Haynes received the Patriotism Award and Cadet Elisa Solomon the ROTC Award from Tanya Pitzer, a member of the Kate Waller Barrett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Cadet 2LT Rhealiza Ambanta received the Sons of the American Revolution Enhanced JROTC Medallion and the SAR Bronze Medal from SAR George Washington Chapter representative Jack Pitzer.
In addition, Ambanta received a check for $500 from the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution as a result of being selected second in the state competition for outstanding JROTC cadets. A junior at Mount Vernon High School, Ambanta wrote an essay on the topic "How JROTC has helped me become a better American citizen." She also provided references attesting to her performance in JROTC, her academic performance and community and school service.
