Alexandria: Speck Named to Top 400

Financial advisor among nation’s best.

David Speck, managing director of Investments for the Speck-Caudron Investment Group of Wells Fargo Advisors in Alexandria, has been named one of the top 400 financial advisors in the country by the Financial Times.

This is the second year that the former City Councilman and member of the Virginia House of Delegates has been recognized by the Financial Times.

To qualify for the list, advisors had to have 10 years of experience and at least $300 million in assets under management. Qualified advisers were then graded on six criteria: AUM, AUM growth rate, compliance record, experience, industry certifications and online accessibility.

Speck has 34 years of experience in the financial services industry. He is a nationally recognized authority in the field of wealth management and a specialist in individual investment planning and tax-advantaged investments. He has been named one of the top 10 financial advisors in Virginia and one of the top 1,200 advisors in the U.S. by Barron’s magazine.

Speck attended the University of Virginia and received his bachelor's, master’s and doctoral degrees from The George Washington University, where he was also a member of the administration and faculty for 10 years. He is a graduate of the Securities Industry Institute program at the Wharton School and was a faculty member of that program from 1988 to 2001. Speck is a member of the International Association for Financial Planning and is the author of College Savings Rx: Investment Prescriptions for a Healthy College Fund.

A former member of the board of directors of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Speck currently serves on the boards of Carpenter's Shelter, ACT for Alexandria, the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership and the Northern Virginia Health Foundation. In 2010, he was named a Living Legend of Alexandria and in 2013 he was honored by the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce as Alexandria's Business Leader of the Year.
