Bullis School Bakes Pies, Fills 130 Baskets for Manna

Every November, the Bullis community gathers to peel, core, prepare, and bake over apple pies for local families at Thanksgiving.

Students and staff provided items to fill 130 baskets distributed by Manna Food Center to Montgomery County families in need. National Honor Society and Community Service Club students take the lead on collection. The works—cranberry sauce, potato flakes, gravy packets, canned vegetables and fruits, holiday table items, even gift certificates for turkeys—are collected, and the baskets are neatly wrapped by members of the Parents Association.

Fresh apple pies are the finishing touch. Students chop apples, roll out pie crusts, and assemble and bake pies during an annual event. This year, Upper, Middle, and Lower Schoolers worked together to bake nearly 200 pies for the baskets. Another 50 or so go to Martha's Table.
