Senior Community Liaison Elaine Scott was celebrated earlier this year as she retired after working 25 years for the City of Alexandria.
“It’s bittersweet,” said Scott at a farewell event held Jan. 29. “When I first started I didn’t know how long I would be here. But the city offered an opportunity for growth, of encouragement and an opportunity to learn.”
Since 2009, Scott has run the Alexandria City Academy, a nine-week program that teaches attendees the ins and outs of city government, including a look at city departments and internal operations. The program is open to any Alexandria resident.
City Manager Jim Parajon praised Scott for her contributions to the city.
“We work with lots of people here but with Elaine, it is the kindness, the passion, the commitment – just the ability to get along with other people that I will remember most about her amazing career,” Parajon said.
Scott was presented with a ceremonial street sign bearing her name by Deputy City Manager Yon Lambert.
“I am thankful for the growth opportunities that the city afforded me,” Scott said. “Yes there have been challenges but at the end of the day it’s been a wonderful experience here. I am humbled, overwhelmed and forever grateful.”
